One of the issues as we age is decreased libido and a lack of bladder control. Now there is a nonsurgical treatment that can help you optimize your intimate life and minimize urinary leaks. The O-Shot® uses platelet-rich plasma drawn from the patient’s own blood at the same office visit as the procedure. Dr. Kulback uses an FDA-cleared centrifuge system to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. After numbing is applied, she injects the platelet-rich plasma, which contains many growth factors, into the clitoris and the upper vaginal wall. The procedure takes approximately 60 minutes, including the platelet preparation. Using platelet-rich plasma for sexual wellness and bladder control is considered off-label, and Dr. Kulback will walk you through what the research shows.

The growth factors released once injected continue to rejuvenate the tissue for several months to come, resulting in long-lasting rejuvenation. Patients often notice increased libido as well as decreased bladder leakage.

Most women experience improvement in libido and orgasmic function, as well as decreased bladder leakage, within 1 to 2 weeks after the O-Shot®, and that improvement keeps building over 3 to 6 months. At K2 Restorative Medicine and Med-Spa, we talk with women about sexual problems. Research shows that only about 14% of women ever talk to any of their physicians about sex. With around 4 in 10 women suffering from a sexual disorder, why do only about 1 in 10 ever talk to their physician about it? According to a Practice Bulletin in Obstetrics and Gynecology (April 2011), the reason may be that, with the exception of short-term hormone replacement, research shows few proven treatment options. Both physician and patient can be discouraged from discussing a problem with no proven solution, so the doctor often just doesn’t ask. The treatments typically offered are vaginal estrogen, topical testosterone, or psychotherapy, and even the hormone therapies were described as short-term.
